Tackle Tech Question While cleaning my gear for the winter I noticed that some of the guides had salt buildup on them. I figured rinsing with fresh water after each use was good enough but apparently not. Is there anything I can use to remove the buildup that may also prevent it in the future? Also, what can I use to coat the rod to help protect them. I've seen a product "reel magic" by blakemore but it doesn't seem right. Thanks, Jerry Response Jerry- I would recommend using warm water and soap to help get rid of the salt in addition to rinsing them off. I came across a product from pennzoil marine named zm corrosion prtoectant. it is made to protect metal from the saltwater and sea air. it comes in a can(no cfc's) and you simply spray it on any metal parts. i use it on my battery terminals, boat metal parts etc...you can use it on your guides but i would wipe it off when you go fishing and keep it away from lures. I never tried reel magic - your guess is as good as mine there. chris gatley |
